Depression is an electrical deficiency in your brain.
For many people with depression, brain activity is dominated by the Default Mode Network, a pattern of brain activity associated with internally directed thoughts and rumination.
Our Therapeutic BCI will restore healthy patterns of brain activity.
DOT is designed to wirelessly stimulate the Central Executive Network by playing specific patterns, or motifs, to turn on this underactive network in patients with depression.
Rebalanced brain activity helps people recover from depression.
With healthy activity in the Central Executive Network, people can engage with the outside world, initiate tasks, and experience relief from depression.
The Engineering of DOT
Magnetoelectric Power Transfer
Patent-pending wireless power technology developed at the Rice University allows DOT to miniaturize to about the size of a pea.
Biocompatible Enclosure
Our thermoplastic polymer housing is designed to minimize adverse reactions in the body.
Reliable Electrode Technology
Electrodes similar to those in pacemakers are engineered to provide long-lasting, safe and effective activation of neural activity without ever contacting the brain.
How It Works
DOT is designed to be implanted in a simple 30 minute outpatient procedure that never exposes or contacts the brain.
By simply wearing a hat that pairs with DOT, users receive a prescribed therapy wherever and whenever.
Stimulation sessions planned to last roughly 30 minutes are expected to provide relief in as little as five days. Maintenance sessions are designed to help patients stay well.
